Hieroglyphics
Egyptians used two different types of writing Hieroglyphs and Demotic. People that wrote things in Egypt were called scribes, scribes had to write down everything. There were very few people that could read or write so they hired scribes to writ everything down. There was a problem tho it took to long to write everything down in hieroglyphs so they invented a new type of writing called Demotic. Demotic writing was a faster way to write and none of the scribes ever bothered to use hieroglyphs afterwards.
About a couple hundred years later the beautiful hieroglyphs were found by archaeologists, but here is the problem no one bother to remember hieroglyphs so the archaeologist couldn't under stand what they meant. Until 200 years ago a stone containing a story in Greek, Demotic, and Hieroglyphs was found in Egypt. This stone was named the Rosetta stone.
Hieroglyphs originated from the 2 words hieros meaning holy and glyphe meaning writing. Hieroglyphs were a combination of alphabetic and syllabic meaning. Egyptians wrote on paper made from papyrus reeds with ink and painted on the walls of tombs. They used papyrus reeds as pens and used ink and paint that was made by crushing plants and mixing them with water.
